GROWING A CLIENT'S BUSINESS

Impact. That’s what I want to have on a business. I want to make recommendations on increasing business. Sure, my ideas might come wrapped up as a marketing suggestion but ultimately when I come up with an idea it’s how to market your business to see a bottom line increase.

I’ve owned a business (or two) and I understand that unless an idea is affecting revenue it’s not worth investing time or money on it.

When I worked for an agency a lot of recommendations have to come with a balance of what’s good for the agency and what’s good for the client. Most agencies put more emphasis on what’s good for them. I don’t think I can blame them either, they’re a business like any other.

As a one-woman business though, I have the freedom to completely ignore if it’s a good business decision. I don’t have anyone but myself to look after and I can make poor decisions for myself if it’s the right thing for a client.

I recently suggested to a client to keep their lower level of social activity for another month and delay increasing their posting schedule which means a smaller social package with me. Did I loose out on revenue? Absolutely, but it was best for the client and I feel better knowing I did the right thing. When I make recommendations to them in the future they’ll know I am not looking for more money for me and I truly am looking out for their business.

I understand that if I increase a clients revenue with my ideas and suggestions or I save them money by telling them they don’t need something, they will be happy. A happy client means a good long term partnership, I’ll take that any day.

WHY I CAN MAKE THESE DECISIONS

Working for myself means I can set my own business rules for what I consider success. If my clients are happy and I’m making an impact, then I believe my business is a success.

There is nothing more rewarding for me than seeing growth. I’ve never been okay with set and forget. I always want to see improvements. I want to try something new, I want to see if it has a positive impact.

I’m always cautious so I won’t suggest a complete overhaul without serious thought and consideration. I will pull from nearly 20 years of experience for anything I test. I will research, I will get lost in thought while on a bike ride about it. I will never be okay with not seeing a positive impact from working together.

It’s what keeps me going day after day, the late nights, the weekend work, the emails while on vacation, they’re all worth it if I can make an impact on a clients business.
